Saskatoon Growth Plan Public Meeting

Have your say!

RESIDENTS INVITED TO HAVE THEIR SAY IN SASKATOON’S FUTURE; GROWTH PLAN PUBLIC EVENTS PLANNED FOR MARCH 3 AND MARCH 10, 2015

The City of Saskatoon invites residents to attend one of three important public engagement events to discuss the proposed Growth Plan to Half a Million (Growth Plan), which includes long-term plans for a new transit system with Bus Rapid Transit (BRT); a new river crossing at 33rd Street and BRT lanes on the University Bridge; and changes to how we live, work, and play along our major corridors like 8th Street, 22nd Street, and Preston Avenue.

The public will also have an opportunity to provide input on implementation priorities for putting specific features of the Growth Plan in motion over the short-, medium-, and long-term.

Mark your calendars!  This is your opportunity to have your say in Saskatoon’s future.

Main Events – Growth Plan Focused Discussions

Tuesday, March 3, 2015

TCU Place, 35 22nd Street East

Daytime Session:  Noon to 2 p.m.

Evening Session:  6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Growth Plan Campus Consultation

Tuesday, March 10, 2015

Louis’ Loft, 93 Campus Drive

3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Event materials and an online survey will be available at www.growingfwd.ca beginning Wednesday, February 25, through Wednesday, March 18, 2015.

This will be the third round of public engagement since the Growth Plan launched in February 2014.  The input gathered during this round of engagement will help to confirm the long-term plans for corridor redevelopment, transit, and core area bridges, as well as set the direction for an implementation plan.  We will be back in fall to share what we heard and confirm the final Growth Plan with the public.

Once complete, the Growth Plan will help to guide future infrastructure investments so residents will have more choices for how they live and move around the city as Saskatoon grows to half a million people over the next 30 to 40 years.

Join the Community Crime Watch

Community crime watch is one way you can make your community a better place to live. Crime watch goes on patrols once a week at various times on the lookout for suspicious activity and report it to proper authorities. Add your name to the Crime Watch list and receive times and dates of the patrols. RSVP if you are available to walk and if you can’t wait until the next notice arrives.

Crime watch is also nice way to meet your neighbours, get to know the area and stay active in the cold winter months.

Outdoor Soccer Registration

Community Outdoor Soccer Registration

Soccer kids

The outdoor soccer season runs the first week of May until the end of June (weather permitted). Games are once or twice per week and practices are optional. Games are played at other sport fields on the west side.

To ensure that your child has a spot on a team, registration must be done on one of these two nights. We will not accept any further registration after March 6th. A valid community membership is required and will be sold at registration night at a cost of $10 per household. The Westview Heights Community Association is able to provide financial support to families residing in Westview.

Every Step Matters – MS Walk

Canada has the highest rate of MS in the world. The MS Society of Canada estimates that approximately 1000 new cases of MS are diagnosed in Canada each year, which means three more Canadians are diagnosed with MS every day. Chances are you have a relative, friend, coworker, acquaintance or classmate with the condition.

“My experience with multiple sclerosis began early: I was a teenager when my mom was diagnosed. At first, I don’t think I really understood what was going on. Her MS was mild for the most part. That has changed recently as my mother approaches retirement. It scares me that my mom might not be able to walk, and even more, not enjoy her retirement.”

Lace up your walking shoes this April, and join us in the fight to end MS. The 25th Anniversary Saskatoon Saskatchewan Blue Cross MS Walk takes place on April 26th, 2015 at the Archibald Arena.
